The SA Select Women’s Sevens will face the Hokkaido Barbarians in the Plate semi-final of the Hokkaido Invitational Sevens in Japan today after going down against the Canada Maple Leafs in the Cup quarter-final on Saturday.
The team suffered a disappointing 50-0 defeat against Japan Women’s 7s Development in their first pool match at the Hokkaido Barbarians Jozankei Ground as the hosts delivered an effective performance on attack and defence, but they fought back to register a 21-17 victory against Tokyo Phoenix Rugby Club in a hard-fought encounter.
The victory earned coach Jongi Nokwe’s side a place in the Cup quarter-final against the Canada Maple Leafs, but they were unable to build on the win and suffered a disappointing 29-0 defeat.
The SA Select Women’s Sevens will face a challenging task in the Plate semi-final on Sunday as they will line up against Hokkaido Barbarians on their home ground.
