The Disciplinary process related to Tomas Albornoz Red Card in the Vodacom United Rugby Championship Round 14 game against Cardiff Rugby on Saturday February 18 has resulted in a two week suspension.
After an act of foul play against Cardiff Rugby player No.18 (Kieron Assiratti), referee Chris Busby showed the Player a Red Card in the 73rd minute of the game under Law 9.12 – A player must not physically or verbally abuse anyone. Physical abuse includes, but is not limited to, biting, punching, contact with the eye or eye area, striking with any part of the arm, shoulder, head or knee(s), stamping, trampling, tripping or kicking.
In the Player’s responses to the Judicial Officer overseeing the disciplinary process (John Kirk, Scotland), he had accepted that he had committed an act of foul play which warranted a Red Card. Mr. Kirk found that the incident met the Red Card threshold, with entry of low-range warranting four weeks. The Player received two weeks mitigation due to his good record which results in a two game suspension.
