Former Scotland U20 loosehead prop Sam Grahamslaw today became the latest FOSROC Scottish Rugby Academy graduate to pen a contract extension with Edinburgh Rugby.
Grahamslaw, 22 – who made his professional debut against Cardiff Blues earlier this season – joins fellow Scotland age-grade teammates Jack Blain and Connor Boyle in extending terms with the capital side.
The loosehead prop has made three senior appearances since penning his first pro deal last summer, having originally come through the ranks at Leicester Tigers’ academy before seeing action with FOSROC Super6 side Watsonians Rugby.
On extending his deal, Grahamslaw, said: “This season is one I won’t forget. Making my debut for Edinburgh Rugby was an incredible experience.
“I couldn’t wipe the smile off my face for days. I’m really enjoying my time in the capital and it’s a club I’m very proud to represent.
“This season I’ve learned what it takes to compete at this level. I’m always looking to develop my game in any way I can and, being in the front-row, there’s no better place to be than Edinburgh.
“The older boys in my position at the club have been a real help. Not only leading by example, but they are also always willing to give tips and advice.”
Former Loughborough University student Grahamslaw gained a Scotland U20 call in 2018 and went to the World Rugby U20 Championship in France, playing in all five games.
His form for Scotland U20 saw him earn a spot in the FOSROC Scottish Rugby Academy, while he subsequently joined Watsonians Rugby for last year’s FOSROC Super6 Championship.
The prop missed the near entirety of 2019 after picking up a back injury but returned to full fitness in 2020 and has since been on the fringes of first XV selection.
“Since joining Edinburgh, I’ve been so lucky to have such high-quality players in my position to learn from,” continued Grahamslaw.
“The whole team is a real tight group of boys and I know I can always go to any of them if I ever need anything.
“Looking ahead to next season, the whole club are really looking forward to having a place we can call home.
“It will be really special when we can eventually run out there in front of the fans. It’s something I’m thoroughly looking forward to.”
Head Coach Richard Cockerill, added: “We’re really happy with how Sam is developing within the club’s experienced front-row group.
“It’s not an easy position to play, but he’s shown a real desire to improve his technique at scrum time which is paying dividends.
“Sam was really deserving of his debut earlier this season and we believe he has the tools from a physical standpoint to succeed at the pro level.”
