Edinburgh Rugby today confirmed its pre-season schedule, which will see Alan Solomons’ men take on English Premiership outfits Sale Sharks and Newcastle Falcons.
Edinburgh will travel to play Sale Sharks at Heywood Road Stadium, Sale on Friday 19 August (kick-off 7pm), to start the 2016/17 season.
The Salford-based side finished sixth in the 2015/16 Aviva Premiership season, and in doing so secured themselves a spot in the forthcoming season’s European Rugby Champions Cup.
The men in black and red will then welcome Newcastle Falcons to BT Murrayfield the following Friday (26 August, kick-off 7.30pm).
Edinburgh last played Newcastle in 2014 at Hawick’s Mansfield Park, when Alan Solomons guided the capital outfit to a 21-15 victory.
Edinburgh Rugby season-ticket holders will be able to enjoy the pre-season clash with Falcons as part of their 2016/17 package. Seating for this game will be unreserved.
Ticket prices for this game are £12 for adults, £8 for senior citizens and £5 for under-18s.
Edinburgh Rugby Managing Director Jonny Petrie, said: “We’re looking forward to taking on two strong teams as part of an exciting pre-season programme.
“Ticket prices for the home game have been frozen from our pre-season last year, so we hope that a large crowd will come along and get behind the team to kick-start an exciting season.
“For the fans, this will be a chance to catch their first glimpse of our new arrivals, and also to see the new strip on the players, so there’s a lot to look forward to before we get underway with the regular league season campaign.”
Edinburgh Rugby Head Coach Alan Solomons, said: “Sale and Newcastle are both established Aviva Premiership sides, who are renowned for their physical, abrasive approach.
“They will provide tough opposition which will facilitate our preparation for the season that lies ahead.”
