The URC StatMaster Insights Pack was launched to allow fans, media and broadcasters to deep dive into the data produced by the teams and players of the United Rugby Championship.
Powered by the URC’s official stat providers Oval Rugby and supported by historic information from Stuart Farmer Media Services (SFMS), the URC StatMaster applies context to the data available for each match in the upcoming round.
The URC StatMaster isn’t just about ranking the top scorers or tacklers, it pinpoints the metrics that provide real insight into the match-ups taking place and what factors can prove influential in the winning and losing.
Performance data fields for teams and players are used and combined with reports and analysis on penalties, 22 entry data and times of scoring to provide a one-page insight report on each fixture.
The goal of the URC StatMaster Insight Pack is to help demystify the game and make it easier to explain through simplified data.
LEINSTER V VODACOM BULLS
Leinster
- Leinster were already the top try scorers in the URC but supercharged their total by running in 12 tries against Glasgow Warriors in the Final Eight, taking them to 85 for the season. On Friday they face the second-highest try scorers, with the Vodacom Bulls having racked up 70 for the campaign
- Leo Cullen’s men boast the highest success rate of the four remaining sides when it comes to kicking at goal (81.9%)
- Leinster have been dominant at the breakdown this season, boasting a 96.65% success rate for rucks won in the competition
Vodacom Bulls
- The Vodacom Bulls possess some of the stand-out individual performers of the season, with Kurt-Lee Arendse leading the way for clean breaks (23) and metres gained (991), Johan Grobbelaar topping the charts for line-outs won (169) and Marcell Coetzee out in front for offloads (37)
- Coetzee’s offload tally contributes to a team total of 228 for the Vodacom Bulls, which is also a high for the competition
- Vodacom Bulls lock Ruan Nortje was this week crowned Ironman as part of the URC Awards, having racked up more minutes than any other player during the regular season (1,394)
Did You Know?
- Leinster have only suffered 1 defeat at the RDS Arena this season in any competition, beaten 20-10 by Ulster in November
- The Vodacom Bulls have lost just 1 of their last 10 matches in the URC – a 19-17 defeat at the DHL Stormers in April
- Leinster were 31-3 winners when these sides met at the Aviva Stadium on the opening weekend of the season
DHL STORMERS V ULSTER
DHL Stormers
- The DHL Stormers were the best-represented side in the URC Dream Team announced this week, contributing 5 players
- John Dobson’s side boast the league’s top points scorer (Manie Libbok, 161), top try scorer (Leolin Zas, 11) and top winner of turnovers (Deon Fourie, 25) across all URC fixtures while Evan Roos leads the way for successful carries (134) and defenders beaten (53)
- They will be keen to avoid any costly periods in the sin bin this weekend, having been shown more yellow cards than any other side this term (13)
Ulster
- Given the attacking threat posed by their hosts this weekend, Ulster will take some comfort in their record as the competition’s most prolific tacklers. Their total of 2,801 is the highest in the URC while their success rate of 91.36% is the best of the four remaining sides
- Dan McFarland’s men tend to keep their noses clean in defence, having conceded the fewest defensive penalties in the URC (111)
- When it comes to total penalties conceded, Ulster’s tally of 178 is the lowest of the teams left in the competition
Did You Know?
- The DHL Stormers have won their last 9 matches since losing to Connacht in Galway in February and have lost just once at home all season in the URC – a 37-19 defeat to the Emirates Lions in December
- Ulster pushed the DHL Stormers all the way when these sides met in Cape Town in March, with the hosts winning 23-20
- The DHL Stormers won both of their home matches against Irish opposition during the regular season, also seeing off Leinster

Rugby is a team game played with an oval ball that may be kicked, carried, and passed from hand to hand. Points are scored by grounding the ball behind the opponents’ goal line (thereby scoring a try) or by kicking it between the two posts and over the crossbar of the opponents’ goal.
RugbySearch aggregates Rugby related content keeping fans up to date with what is happening in this fast paced world.
