ISUZU SOUTHERN KINGS SUFFER DEFEAT IN FIRST OUTING OF 2019:

EDINBURGH (26) 38

ISUZU SOUTHERN KINGS (0) 0

The Isuzu Southern Kings suffered a 0-38 defeat to Scottish giants, Edinburgh, at Murrayfield Stadium in a Guinness PRO14 Round 13 clash on Saturday night.

The six tries scored by Edinburgh to give the Scottish side a bonus point win proved too big a task for the Port Elizabeth-based side on their first outing for 2019.

Edinburgh started the match at a high tempo and were rewarded early in the opening 10 minutes of the game with three tries from fullback Dougie Fife and two from winger Darcy Graham as the home side showed their intent to take control of the match.

The Isuzu Southern Kings managed to keep the Scottish side at bay for most of the remaining period of the first half until the 40th minute when Edinburgh again crossed the tryline through prop Rory Sutherland.

The home side maintained a commanding lead at the half-time break, leading the vising South African outfit 26-0 after 40 minutes of play.

Edinburgh picked up where they left off in the second half and were quickly rewarded five minutes after play resumed as tighthead prop Simon Berghan scored his first ever try for Edinburgh.

In the 63rd minute substitute hooker Cameron Fenton ensured the match would be out of reach for the visiting Isuzu Southern Kings when he scored the sixth try for the home side. The score remained unchanged until the final whistle as Edinburgh ran away 38-0 victors.

The Isuzu Southern Kings return home to Port Elizabeth where they will begin preparations for their next match – a South African derby – against Cheetahs in two weeks’ time.
