The Mzansi Rugby League is a privately built professional rugby union league created to expand opportunity, strengthen domestic rugby, and build a modern club competition for South Africa. South Africa produces some of the best rugby talent in the world. The MRL exists to give more of it a professional platform.

South African rugby needs more professional opportunity:

The country has extraordinary rugby talent but the professional platform is too narrow. Too many players leave school and university without a real route into full-time rugby.

At the same time, communities across South Africa deserve clubs that represent them, weekly fixtures they can follow, matchdays they can attend, and rugby stories they can emotionally invest in.

MRL exists to create that missing platform.

Our mission is to build a professional rugby union league that:

• Creates more paid opportunities for South African rugby players
• Gives fans local clubs to support and seasons to follow
• Builds a modern domestic rugby product with global standards
• Connects schools, communities, clubs and the professional game
• Uses media and streaming to grow the sport and reach new audiences
• Creates jobs and economic activity around matchdays and clubs
