Moor Cup Weekend Wrap 11 July:
SA Home Loans Durban Collegians defeated Amanzimtoti 39-3 in a crucial Fidelity Security Moor Cup match on Friday night to ensure the race for this season’s title will be going down to the last day of the league season.
Collegians went into the match seven points behind leaders Your Communication College Rovers who had a bye this weekend. Collegians were aware that nothing less than a victory would do but were wary that Toti were a potential banana skin on their home patch. The defending champions showed their quality as they came through the match unscathed.
Toti had no answer as tries from Shane Ball, Sipho Mkhize, Ngoni Chubuwe, Greg Bauer, Jasper Genis and Mondi Nkosi ensured a crucial bonus point victory for Collegians.
In doing so, Collegians narrowed the gap at the top of the Moor Cup standings to two points which means the championship is on the line when the top two collide next weekend at KP10.
Toti finish the campaign in third place on the top five conference with 15 points. They are followed by FNB UKZN Impi on 8 and Varsity College with 2 points.
Elsewhere, there were two matches in the bottom five conference. Fidelity Security Jaguars stood firm to edge Mancosa Zululand Rhinos 26-21 in Sydenham. Jaguars go to the top of the bottom five conference with 28 points- two ahead of second placed PhotoNote Durban Crusaders.
South Coast Warriors produced an encouraging performance to defeat Newcastle Highlanders 31-10 in Port Shepstone. The victory for Warriors sees them move up to third on the bottom five conference with 19 points- one ahead of Rhinos who drop to fourth. Newcastle are bottom with six points.

Moor Cup Weekend Preview:
SA Home Loans Durban Collegians get the opportunity to close the gap at the top of the Fidelity Security Moor Cup table this weekend as the second round of matches kick off since the league was split into a top and bottom five conference.
Collegians slipped seven points behind table toppers Your Communications College Rovers last week following their bye and Rovers convincing victory over Varsity College. The shoe is on the other foot this weekend as Collegians host FNB UKZN Impi and Rovers have a bye.
Just two weeks ago the defending champions were cruising as they went eight games on the spin without defeat. However a narrow defeat to Rovers saw the league turn on its head.
The manner in which the Moor Cup is now structured – with teams only carrying points gained against opponents in their conference – enabled Rovers to leapfrog Collegians as well as opening up a two point gap over their rivals.
That lead was extended to seven points last weekend as Rovers moved onto, putting further pressure on the defending champions who sit second with 16 points.
With little room for error as the Moor Cup enters crunch time, Collegians are aware that only maximum points against Impi will do.
The Maritzburg outfit are fourth on the top five conference with nine , having been turned over at home by Amanzimoti last weekend. In the second match of the top five conference, Toti are at home to Varsity College.
Meanwhile, the bottom five conference has the teams closely bunched together. Following last weekend’s comprehensive victory, Fidelity Security Jaguars are heading the table with 19 points followed by PhotoNote Durban Crusaders on 16.
Crusaders will have the opportunity to leapfrog the Sydenham based side when they make the trip north to face Newcastle Highlanders. Jaguars have a bye this weekend.
Newcastle have found life in the premier division difficult to adjust to following last season’s promotion and are currently last on the bottom five conference with five points.
Over in Port Shepstone, South Coast Warriors, who are third on the log with 13 points, host Zululand Rhinos who are just a point behind in fourth.
All matches are scheduled to kick off on Saturday afternoon at 15.00.
