Scottish Rugby is saddened to learn of the death of the former Scotland lock forward Douglas Muir. He was 89.
Douglas Edgar Muir was born in Edinburgh on 17 March, 1925.
He attended George Heriot’s School in Edinburgh and served during the Second World War as a captain in the Gurkhas.
He won his first cap in a victory against France in 1950 and went on to win seven caps in total. His other winning experience in a Scotland jersey was the home success against England also in 1950 and our picture is from that team.
In his working life he started as a management trainee with Edinburgh based printing and packaging company William Thyne in 1948 and he rose through the ranks becoming the managing director in 1967.
In his retirement Douglas lived on Guernsey. He died this past weekend and his funeral will take place at the Le Foulon Crematorium on Guernsey on Friday 19 September.
