Western Province today announced their strongest side to travel to Limerick, Ireland for the 2014 World Club Sevens tournament.
The Province squad, coached once again by Ricky Petersen, will depart for Ireland on Monday ahead of next weekend’s (August 9-10) tournament at Thomond Park.
After competing in Limerick against some of the world’s best club teams, DHL WP will then transfer to London for the second edition of the Twickenham World Club Sevens the following weekend (August 16-17).
DHL WP have been drawn into Pool B of the Limerick Sevens alongside the NSW Waratahs (Australia), Vancouver Bears (Canada) and Stade Français (France), before facing up to RC Enisei (Siberia), New York (America) and the winners of England’s Premiership Rugby 7s competition (to be confirmed on Friday, August 8) in Pool A in London.
The Province Sevens team will captained by Durb-Bell’s Ruan Mostert, with Danie Roux, Josh Bassingthwaighte and Armien Bailey all returning from last year’s London trip and experienced 15-man stars, Earl Rose (also a former Sevens Springbok) and Freddie Muller, making a return to WP colours.
“We learnt some big lessons in London last year,” DHL WP Sevens coach Ricky Petersen said.. “Our preparation has been a lot different, and much smarter, and we aim to give a much better account of ourselves this season.
“The players have worked hard and they’re determined to make DHL Western Province’s presence felt in Limerick and London.”
